Michael Musumeci Jr. (built-in July 7, 1996) is an American submission grappler and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black chugalug competitor.[c]

A four-fourth dimension Earth Champion and Pan American Champion in colored belts, Musumeci is a five-time IBJJF blackness belt Earth Champion (four times in Gi and one time in No-Gi), and the first American to win more than one IBJJF World championship at black belt.[seven] He is currently signed to ONE Championship where he is the electric current flyweight submission grappling champion.

Early on life [edit]

Michael Musumeci Jr. was built-in in Marlboro, New Jersey on July 7, 1996. Musumeci is of Italian ancestry.[8] [d] He began grooming Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) at age 4 along with his sis Tammi at Fatjo'southward Martial Arts Academy under motorcoach Fernando "Cabeça". When he was 10 his family moved to Florida. While grooming at various academies, he met brothers Rafael and Guilherme Mendes of Fine art of Jiu Jitsu (AOJ)[e] during a seminar, starting a long human relationship with the brothers and their academy.[1] Starting at juvenile blueish belt, Musumeci won IBJJF world championships at every chugalug level.[2] In 2014 Guilherme Mendes awarded him his chocolate-brown belt correct after his 2014 purple chugalug world championship while on the podium. In 2015 aged eighteen, Musumeci received his black belt from Gilbert Burns.[7]

Black belt career [edit]

The following year Musumeci won the 2016 Pan American Title at roosterweight followed by the World No-Gi Championship. In 2016 he switched team joining Caio Terra's association.[12] In 2017 Musumeci won the UAEJJF World Pro at black belt in the 62 kg weight course.[1] In 2017 he won the World Championship in the Lightfeather segmentation. In 2018 Musumeci became Earth Champion for the second fourth dimension.[7] Fighting in a lower weight division he won the World Championship ii more times in 2019 and 2021.

2021 [edit]

Musumeci made his Who'south Number One debut on March 26, 2021, where he submitted Marcelo Cohen with an armbar from the triangle choke position.[13] On May 28, 2021 Musumeci returned to WNO, submitting Lucas Pinheiro with a heelhook.[14] Musumeci's third WNO friction match was against Edwin 'Junny' Ocasio on June 18, 2021, and Musumeci won the bout by unanimous decision.[xv] Musumeci was and so invited to compete in the countdown WNO Championships outcome, taking part in the tournament for the promotion's Lightweight title.[16] Musumeci faced Gabriel Sousa in the opening round and was submitted past north-due south choke, removing him from the competition.[17] Musumeci then competed for the countdown WNO Bantamweight title on Oct 20, 2021. He submitted Richard Alarcon with a leglock that has since been dubbed 'The Mikey Lock', and won the belt.[18]

Musumeci dedicated the WNO Bantamweight title against Estevan Martinez on January 21, 2022, winning past unanimous decision.[27] Presently afterward, he signed with ONE Title.[28] After signing with 1 Championship, Musumeci switched gyms over again and moved to Singapore to railroad train at Evolve MMA.[29]
